Breathless in Trafalgar Square is Andrea Corr, performing at
the
South Afican democracy concert
Guys, throw away your last vestige of hope.
The youngest Corr sister is no longer single and available.
Speaking on the phones from Hong Kong on
Tuesday, Andrea Corr reveals that "yes, there is someone special in my
life".
But she will not go into details, saying only that he has no objection
to The Corrs' frequent travels.
"We try to come home once a month and he's fine with that," she says.
"If you're happy with a person, the rest doesn't really matter."
Not only are all three gorgeous sisters
in the band now spoken for, the oldest, Sharon, is also almost about to
get married.
But Andrea immediately dismisses speculation that the Irish
group might break up after Sharon, who plays the violin, exchanges vows
with her long-time boyfriend later this year.
"We recognize that our strength is in the
four of us," she adds in a soft drawl. "Individually, it'd be quite lonely.
We write together, we play together, and we sing together. And now we've
had lots of success we realize that we're actually the only ones who understand
what the others are going through.
"Sharon's been committed to this man for
seven years. Now it will become a written commitment, but actually it
was always there. If she decides to have a family…well, we'll see what
happens when she does."
The Irish group, which cancelled its February
gig in Singapore because lead vocalist Andrea had an ear infection from
traveling, confirmed that their concert here has been reschedule for October
6 at the Indoor Stadium.
But those who can't wait that long to see
the sibling quartet perform can catch the televised version of their recent
concert at London's Wembley Arena. The programme premiered on HBO on Wednesday,
and will be repeated three times this month on the same channel.
In the meantime, the three sultry sisters
- the last is drummer Caroline - and their oft-overlooked brother Jim
have not been idle.
After Andrea recovered from the ear infection,
the band went on to finish their postponed British tour, promote their
latest album, In Blue, in America, and perform at the South African Freedom
Day Concert in Trafalgar Square in London on April 29.
"It was really amazing," Andrea says of the
last event. "The celebrations were at Trafalgar Square because that's
where people would petition every year and demonstrate for freedom in
South Africa.
For her, the highlight was getting to meet
Nelson Mandela in person.
